Thermage CPT is a noninvasive and non-ablative radiofrequency (RF) generating device that delivers continuous unipolar heat energy to the skin. The heat energy travels into the skin to stimulate the restoration and regeneration of collagen fibres so that the skin becomes tighter, smoother, and beautifully contoured. This Class II and U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved device is unlike other skin tightening methods, as it is integrated with patented Comfort Pulse Technology (CPT), which functions similarly to Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) therapy. Thermage and TENS therapy both use heat energy interspersed with intermittent bursts of cryogen in order to disrupt the activity of sensory nerves and the normal neural pathway, resulting in subdued pain and discomfort. The cryogen also has an additional function: it protects the skin from any injuries caused by heat energy. Thermage 3.0cm² Total Tip is one of the many Treatment Tips available for the Thermage system. This tip is specifically designed to double the maximum volume of bulk heating so as safely correct the face, neck, and body from signs of premature ageing such as sagginess, inelasticity, cellulite, and wrinkles. This membrane tip contains a computer chip that is pre-programmed to ensure that the tip only delivers 900 or 1200 pulses of heat energy, depending on the Treatment Tip used, after which said tip must be discarded. The Thermage system, including Thermage CPT, is designed by Solta Medical, an America company that manufactures energy-based medical devices.

What are the benefits of this product?

With the Thermage 3.0cm² Total Tip, practitioners can offer a comprehensive array of treatments that target both facial and non-facial treatment areas. Thermage CPT can be used to tighten the skin in quick, convenient, and comfortable procedures that have virtually no associated downtime.

What is this product made of?

The product is a single-use accessory of the radiofrequency-based Thermage CPT system. This Treatment Tip is designed with the size and geometry to treat the face, body, and neck and is able to deliver up to 900 or 1200 pulses. Thermage CPT devices also have a cryogen unit that dispenses bursts of a cooling effect throughout the treatment.

How does this work to help my patients?

Radiofrequency-based medical devices like Thermage CPT use monopolar radiofrequency energy to produce volumetric heating. Thermage CPT devices have a radiofrequency generator component that provides this monopolar radiofrequency energy. This energy is conducted to the skin through a Treatment Tip, such as Thermage 3.0cm² Total Tip, that is attached to the Handpiece of a Thermage CPT device. Heating is conferred through the resistance of flow in the tissue and is limited to the deep dermis and subcutaneous layers of skin. Volumetric heating of these areas affects collagen fibrils, causing their contraction and denaturation, while also inducing the inflammatory cascade, which promotes the production and deposition of new collagen deposition for wound remodeling. The latter effect results in gradual progressive improvement in skin laxity and texture over the course of two to six months after a Thermage CPT treatment. Thermage CPT employs a cooling mechanism to prevent inadvertent epidermal damage, such as blistering or crusting. The CPT handpiece vibrates during treatment for the amelioration of pain.

How does Thermage Total Tip 3.0 work?

Thermage treatments should be conducted by trained healthcare professionals in a doctor’s office setting. The procedure begins with the preparation of the planned treatment site with the removal of any makeup and gentle cleansing of the treatment area. A grounding pad, which completes the radiofrequency return path to the instrument, is attached to patient, usually on their abdomen or lower back. To help guide pulse placement, a temporary grid stencil is applied to the planned treatment area. A generous amount of coupling fluid is then applied to this treatment area.
Using the grid as a reference, the practitioner should treat the area by following a lower-energy, multiple pass protocol. Extra pulses may be targeted at problematic areas if needed. After the pulses have been delivered, the procedure is completed with the removal of the grid with rubbing alcohol and the cleansing of the treated area.

How long will the treatment take?

A Thermage CPT treatment usually takes about 20 minutes to two hours, depending on the area being treated. Results are instantly visible after the procedure.

What can I use it for?

This versatile treatment applicator can be used on both facial and non-facial skin. When used on the skin of the face and neck, a Thermage CPT device can help resolve skin laxity issues like a sagging midface, a lowered brow, deep smile lines, wrinkling, lax skin around the jawline, and crepey neck skin. When used in non-facial areas, a Thermage CPT device can help slim down the thighs or upper arms; improve post-partum skin laxity; or tone localized areas of fat, such as the love handles.

What areas should I use this product on?

This Treatment Tip is intended for use on the face (apart from the eyelid area); the neck; and the body areas, including the hands, thighs, abdomen, and upper arms. As this treatment is not affected by epidermal melanin, this treatment is suitable for all skin types. Thermage CPT is an FDA-approved monopolar radiofrequency device for the treatment of wrinkles and skin laxity, among a number of other indications.

How long do the results last?

The duration of the results of Thermage CPT treatment can vary according to the treatment area and the patient’s natural aging process, but most patients will see the treatment results last around two years.
